As you say, Blomkamp was ideal, as far as I can tell. I actually met Jason Jones last year (in Egypt, of all places) but he didn't seem to know much about the movie production side of Halo at all. I guess we'll just have to satisfy ourselves with the occasional Blomkamp Nike or Citroen commercials... I wondered what had happened to the film.
