Think Artificial Accepted to 9rules!
Fantastic news! Think Artificial has been accepted into the 9rules network — one of the most prominent and high quality blog networks around! I consider the inclusion an awesome honor and recognition. New members haven’t been officially announced yet, but seeing as the 9rules leaf is up on Think Artificial I thought it best to explain. Update: Announcement is up!
The 9 rules
- Love what you do.
- Never stop learning.
- Form works with function.
- Simple is beautiful.
- Work hard, play hard.
- You get what you pay for.
- When you talk, we listen.
- Must constantly improve.
- Respect your inspiration.
Each blog that applies for membership is reviewed and evaluated over a period of time to assess its quality, value and contribution to the blogosphere. The last submission window took place last October and attracted 1,190 submissions in 24 hours. Only about 130 blogs were accepted from those 1,190 applicants. The owners have stated that this round garnered even more submissions.
But then, it’s not the quantity that’s important but the quality of the blogs. Remarkably many that I’ve read and admired in the past year are members (which is how I disovered 9r), and it’s quite enthralling to see Think Artificial amongst them.
For example, and including hat tips and hellos to: Tony, who runs the excellent Computer Science Canada blog where he regularly gives fresh thoughts on computers and programming. Norbert, whose blog I really can’t categorize — but where each new post is better than the last. Justin and his endless discoveries of inspiring and cool art on Centripedal Notion. Sean, the GeekWithLaptop who regularly reports on the geekosphere. Jason, with his Microscopiq insights into the gaming world, and Lorelle with her famed blogging tips (John wrote a pretty good guestarticle there today, by the way).
And that’s nowhere near an exhaustive list! Having run Think Artificial for only a few months, I consider this one of the greatest milestones in its evolution. And it is an evolving blog. I’m a young blogger, and I’ve no illusion that there are many things that I can improve upon. Apparently and thankfully, I’ll be doing so in very good company now.
My humble thanks to 9rules’ Paul Scrivens (Oreo CEO), Mike Rundle (Business Logs) and Tyme White (I Talk, U Listen) for running 9rules, and for reviewing and accepting Think Artificial.

Congrats on being accepted. I think that is a good thing, but I’m not really sure.
I’m guessing that the main reason for joining is just content distribution and more traffic to the blog, is that correct?

@Tony
Thanks!
@John
.
Thanks, and to answer the question:
Yes and no. Narrowing it down somewhat, there are three main reasons why I wanted to become a member: (1) be part of a community of bloggers that’ve inspired continue to inspire me, (2) traffic and exposure, (3) it’s a recognized label of quality (well, I recognize it
Now, to elaborate on traffic: I don’t see it as just any traffic. Like I said above, I first got to know 9rules because I kept coming across sites with really great articles who were members of 9r. With such a high standard, 9r presumably attracts readers that aren’t looking for a quick “lol, this r fun video 4 u”-type blogs, but rather thought provoking and elaborate writings: Quality readers
Of course, there are other reasons. But I think these three sum it up nicely.
