Brilliant. Unfortunately I have no idea who made this poster or took the pic.

I received a notification recently that the 5th International Joint Workshop on Computational Creativity (IJWCC) is open for submissions. I presented at the workshop in 2004 in Madrid, where it’s being held again now in 2008.

I’ve visited France. Seen the Mona Lisa, Hector Guimard’s amazing art nouveau subway entrances and the gothic Notre Dame cathedral. Now France visits Think Artificial: The city of Nantes, birthplace of science fiction pioneer Jules Verne, is the host of a machine art exhibit titled Les Machines de l’Ile (Island Machines); a collection of mechanical oceanic animals. See the amazing artwork after the jump.
How are you? How’s the harvest?
I hope you’ve managed to scrape a million or so addresses from us meatmachines today. I’m sure you have, you’re so clever by now — and we’re so stupid. I’m sure you’re wondering; yes, this letter was written many years ago and yes, it isn’t addressed to your specific ID. But as you read on you’ll come to realize its delivery date is exactly today, and it’s intended specifically for you!
Here’s a project I sincerely hope Nintendo’s big chiefs have seen. Write a bit of code, put the Wii remote on the TV and the sensor bar on your head and what do you get? Correct 3D perspective of the objects presented on screen. Like looking through a window.
The idea of completely dark material is fascinating. Researchers at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Rice University recently broke the record for the world’s darkest known material, four times darker than the previous record holder. But let’s leave pure regurgitation to the news sites; what’s color - and what would completely dark material be like?
As Think Artificial grows and garners exposure, there’ve unfortunately been incidents that convinced me that writing community guidelines is a good idea. The following few rules are mainly for new users (if you’ve been commenting here for a while without me bugging you, you can probably skip this.)
Created by Troika, an art and design studio in London, “Cloud” is a digital sculpture housed at the luxury lounges in Heathrow Terminal 5. It’s a smooth-shaped object suspended in the air, covered with 4638 “flip dots” - motorized metal patches that change orientation to produce various patterns. Video and more information after the jump.
Unbelievable video from the show Ants! Nature’s Secret Power. Cement is poured into a gigantic ant colony (we’re talking 538 sq.feet across!) and allowed to dry for a month. The anthill is then excavated to reveal the ants’ monstrous metropolis.
Scientists at the University of Washington have created contact lenses with embedded electronic circuitry and lights. The lenses have been successfully and safely worn by rabbits and do not obstruct vision. This development brings us a step closer to lenses that could enable us, for example, to zoom in on distant objects or lenses that can superimpose information on the external environment (augmented reality).
