The past weekends I’ve been spending some time on a pet game project. Writing a small engine, building a storyline and creating visuals. When it comes to 3D games there’s a lot to consider, from aesthetics through software architecture to AI, and naturally, my curious mind has been venturing ideas in all these areas. Lately I’ve started to think that maybe the whole thing is worth more than just random jabs of code and color.

I just finished updating the
Artificial Creativity page. It now sports an
External Links section which I’m sure will provide the enthused with some food for thought. Suggestions for new links are welcomed in the comments of this entry.

Apparently, the technoscape of this poor little island of mine is doomed to face continuous hiccups. My home connection has now been dead the entire weekend with no substantial explanation for why. I’m writing this at the lab, my main medium for information and expression cut in half by what appears to be blatant carelessness.

A new school semester has dawned and once again I find myself scuttering about to prepare for what’s ahead. It’s funny, nevermind the fact that it happens every year, surprise never fails to rear its horns when I suddenly realize it’s almost winter again. Jump started by the usual strong cup of coffee and inhalation of deadly nicotine, my day is now full of people with bad English accents pimping out Powerpoint slides. And I’m sitting there thinking how the learning process could be different.

Fantastic news! Think Artificial has been accepted into the 9rules network — one of the most prominent and high quality blog networks around! I consider the inclusion an awesome honor and recognition. New members haven’t been officially announced yet, but seeing as the 9rules leaf is up on Think Artificial I thought it best to explain. Update: Announcement is up!

I work on artificial creativity. That’s my main focus of research and development. Some people fix cars, others collect dolls. I work on making machines capable of original thought. The strange thing is that I haven’t been letting it shine through on Think Artificial, mainly because I’ve been searching for the right way to talk about it. But from now on there’ll be regular coverage of this important and almost magical concept. Will computers ever be capable of invention?

Sharp readers of Think Artificial may have noticed that I sometimes use bizarre, yellow icons to spice up the entries (like the one on the side here). They’re part of a 15 icon set I created sometime in 2006 during what must’ve been a night of insomnia. In any case, I’m releasing them into the public domain in this post! Hope some of you find them entertaining or even useful, or at least not annoying. Continue Reading to see all of them and download the package (”Spambots” is my favorite).

After having studied publications and information on Radar Networks for a recent blog post, I decided I might as well write a Wikipedia article on them while I’m at it. Less than an hour (one hour!) after my initial publication of the article somebody had come along and tagged it, suggesting that it was written as an “advertisement”. Is it just my inexperience with Wikipedia, or does it seem a bit strange for someone to instantly slap a tag on it … even while I’m still doing modifications?

I’m back baby. Renourished and ready to roll. First thing’s first: Two weeks without a computer proved an interesting experience, but putting myself back into the web-savvy circles is proving even more interesting. Blog posts have piled up, along with email, news and all sorts of spam to sift trough. Yargh. The web monster demands my attention. (Doesn’t help that my mouse feels strangely unfamiliar.) I’m picking up a vision; yes, I see constant computer use and several liters of coffee in my future. Expect Think Artificial to kick back into full gear in the next few days. [Updated!]
