The MULE Won’t Bite You, It’ll Shoot You
“The U.S. Army will soon test a six-wheeled, 20-foot robot to see whether it can traverse rugged terrain, fire machine guns and carry 1,900 pounds of gear without soldiers remotely controlling its every move”

This two-and-a-half ton monster is called Multifunction Utility Logistics and Equipment, or MULE. If I remember correctly, there are already well over 1,500 fully- or semi autonomous and remote controlled robots active in Iraq. But according to Wired, a recent cutback appears to have left some uncertainty of whether robots will be emphasized in near-future (military-related) developments.
See the MULE brochure here (PDF).
And oh, they’re also working on a 6 ton version of MULE.
