iRobot Releases Affordable Hackalicious Robot!
Rejoice! iRobot has released a hackable version of their Robot Vacuum cleaners, the iRobot Create platform! The robot serves as a chassis, allowing you to extend it into the robot you crave. I found this description here:
An optional Command Module plugs right into the cargo bay to allow you to program and controll the robot via the Create’s Open Interface. The command module is powered by an Atmega168.
This little buddy looks perfect for indoor hobbyism — it’s small, clean, simple and just begs for arms and webcams embedded allover it (in a reasonable amount of course, excuse me, I’m excited). Not only that, but the pricetag is great as well. The iRobot Create is only $130, add a Command Module, standard battery and a charger and it’s still only $230. That’s within most enthusiasts budgets.
Here is a project list iRobot has put together, along with forums and documentation. The main iRobot Create page is here.
