Organically Inspired Robotic Art

The following videos are the amazing mechanical artwork of U-Ram Choe from Seoul, Korea. Somewhat reminiscent of Giger‘s designs (minus Giger’s taste for sloppy edges), the smooth and organic motions of Choe’s machines provoke in me a soothing feeling of an alien and distant future. His design, the vertebrae and head shapes fit my taste exactly. Quite inspiring, aesthetically superior machinery.

  1. These are very cool. I wonder what is causing the motion? Are they moving in a breeze, or is there electricity being supplied?

The wires seem to be purely to hold it afloat and not for conducting electricity, so my guess is that the sculptures themselves contain batteries and miniature motors. The one in the top video can’t be moving in a breeze, too smooth motions. The only design specs I could find online were on his page, minimally stating “CPU Board, Motor”.

Snooping around his website I found some more fantastic designs, check this out.
